what should we do with private bancorp before the fiscal cliff? i think the positives are clearly baked into the stock right here. this bank could do really well in an environment of rising interest rates, but the fed has made it very clear that rates will stay low until at least 2015. so you know what? let's take a pass on that one. let's do some tweets. thank you, viewers, for making it so that i have more than 600,000 followers. thank you very much. happened just the other day. let's take our first tweet from @nfalex who says what's your take on -- it's the old part of kraft. the stock price has been trading down sinced the old spinoff. it drives me crazy when stephanie link and i buy for the charitable trust. the charitable trust follows stocks. you can follow along with actionalertsplus.com. and they don't immediately pop. this is the p.m. of philip morris when altria split. it's the fast-growing snacks business overseas, it's going to be great. now here's the problem. it acts terribly. so wa you can say is therefore it's bad or you can do th

remish, you have written about the pessimistic view on the fiscal cliff negotiations. why don't you think a deal gets done? >> well, i just think the parties are too far apart. if president obama wants republicans to agree not only to allow the top tax rates to go up, but also put a new millionaire surtax, new stimulus funding, there's no way republicans do that without many entitlement reform. i think the democrats are prepared to allow, and that's why i just think that i agree with the congressman. i think that we are likely not to get a deal before the beginning of the year. >> but do you think it was a senator lindsey graham indicated there at the beginning, do you think it was a political calculation or is a political calculation on the part of the white house? >> well, i think there are political calculations being made by everybody in washington right now, but i don't think it's a secret that the democrats believe, in a lot of cases, that they have the upper hand in the p.r. war over this issue. >> perry, this is grover norquist just a few hours ago on "meet the

interesting fact as you think about the fiscal cliff and what's coming, you see people responding to it in their behavior around capital gains and dividends. companies are moving up dividends into this year to help vare shareholders take advantage of the lower rate. you see and i expect you'll see more investors realizing capital gains to get lower rate this is year. there's clearly money there and there's clearly money that has if you will, interesting distributional characteristicsing money from high income folks. if you think about an overall package and the political process, trying to structure a package with a revenue goal and distributional goal, my kind of political economic prediction is you'll see those increases occur. i personally would be surprised if thetive dend rate went back up to ordinary rates. if i remember correctly, the senate passed a bill in which they'd allow us to stay at the cap gains rate plus the health reform ones. the president in his early budgets actually proposed having dividends stay the same as capital gains rather than go to ordinary rates. my gue

he said "republicans are seriously considering a doomsday plan if fiscal cliff talks collapse entirely. it would be quite simple. house republicans would allow a vote on extending the bush middle class tax cuts. that bill already passed in august in the senate. and offer the president nothing more. no extension to the debt ceiling, nothing on unemployment, nothing on loopholes. congress would recess for the holidays and the president would face a big battle early in the year over the debt ceiling. ." two republican officials tell me this is becoming the most likely scenario. "the new york times" added more detail including this amazing quote from rep michael c. burgess of texas. "there's always better ground, but we have to get there." in this case the better ground is exchanging the threat of a congressionally induced recession for the threat of a congressionally induced global financial crisis combined with recession. that, that is your better ground? that's a big plan? it's not -- it's not better ground for the economy. and, frankly, i find it difficult to see how it's better politi

i know the speaker, as well as i, do not want to see us go to the fiscal cliff, but feel very strongly we've got to get serious here. we don't want to increase tax rates. we're not going to increase tax rates. >> warner: a white house spokesman shot back that republicans ought not to be surprised that mr. obama is sticking to his guns. and congressional democrats, like house minority leader nancy pelosi, welcomed the president's plan. >> elections have consequences. the president campaigned-- he made it very clear, he made it very clear that he was supporting a tax cut for the middle class, that he wanted the expiration of the tax cuts for the high end. and the american people know that debate, they voted for him. >> warner: still, despite all the tough talk, reporter todd zwillich of wnyc and public radio international says there's more movement behind the scenes than meets the eye. >> there does tend to be a pattern to how big negotiations like this go. the fact that they haven't reached an agreement yet doesn't mean they won't before christmas, doesn't mean they won't before new yea
